New survey results show SMS is ruling business communication

The results of a recent survey have been released by RingCentral, snapshotting how SMS is used in the lives of those in the working world. It was a small survey, but the results are telling of wider mobile habits that frankly, we kind of already knew about. Of the 500+ people surveyed, 78 percent have between one and four messaging apps on their phone. Over half of those surveyed use two or three apps on a daily basis, so it isn’t shocking that 43 percent have sometimes felt a communication overload with too many apps to check for messages. Personally, we  take part in this phenomenon. With WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, as well as Viber being among the more popular apps in our office. But sometimes with group messaging and an overload of mediums, the constant buzzing of our apps is more annoying than helpful. For that reason, we’ll leave the apps unchecked to deal with later. This is completely contrasting to how it feels to get an SMS. It has become a far more urgent medium. That’s why when we heard that the recent survey revealed that texts are mostly used for quick responses (71 percent) in business, we weren’t surprised. The survey results revealed that SMS is widely favoured over apps like Facebook Messenger. With 72 percent of respondents preferring to text rather than instant message. 74 percent also found text messaging easier and 56 percent found it faster.
