For over 40 years, EACH has provided specialist health services, recognising that maintaining good health is about more than just curing illness. EACH services acknowledge and tackle some of the key social and economical issues that impact a persons health and wellbeing, such as homelessness, unemployment, social exclusion, financial struggle and addiction. Some of their important work includes counselling for addiction, running programs to promote self-development, child care, and youth work.
EACH Youth and Family Services is a valuable resource for people between the ages of 12 and 25 to address some of the risks to good health which face young Australians. Some of the services include early intervention counselling, particularly targeted at young people under the age of 18 at risk of homelessness, and those who are experiencing problems relating to family conflict. They also offer bushfire counselling and a wilderness experience that provides a catalyst for change and self reflection for young people aged 14-18.Over the past six months the Youth and Family Services have seen tremendous success implementing SMS into their communication strategies with young Australians. They use our Echo platform to send text message reminders to youths with the details of their appointments, which has generated the result of far fewer missed appointments for group and individual counselling sessions.“We try to be as creative and innovative as possible when communicating with young people and this has really allowed us to do that,” said Rhianna Perkin, a team leader within the Youth and Family Services. The text message strategy has also been effective for checking in on youths between sessions to monitor their welfare and provide an extra level of care. The response to this has also been overwhelmingly positive.Other sections within EACH have also seen similar success using SMS, such as during financial difficulty counselling.
